About So Hum Joy

Welcome to The Issue

I turned 50 two years ago.   I don’t believe that 50 is the new 30.  Or that 70 is the new 50.  We aren’t just “as old as we feel” either.  Our bodies, minds and definitely our hearts are more nuanced and complicated then these platitudes allow.

What we all need to thrive is passion, curiousness, gratitude, connection and a bit of magic.  Magic-makers of our time and place are all beating the same drum.  Ariana Huffington’s Thrive Global is a virtual vault of information on how to live well, reduce stress, increase sleep and truly THRIVE.  Deepak Chopra has dedicated his life to teaching us the value of meditation, the universal connection between the mind, body and spirit taught for centuries in the ancient wisdom traditions.  Adding science, he has brought it all together in a new and powerful way in his most recent book, Metahuman.  Brene Brown’s groundbreaking Ted Talk has been a lightening rod for millions of people around the globe.  Her extensive research brings data-driven proof that what we all desire is connection.  Her subsequent books are are modern day road map for championing vulnerability and the fearlessness needed for wholehearted living. These magic-makers are offering up valuable tools we all need to thrive, regardless of our numerical age.

Life is meant to be lived big and bold.  There is also deep satisfaction to be found in all the nooks and crannies of this life.  I find appreciation, love, connection and joy in the history of our world, nature, writing, pop culture, entertainment and most of all in travel.  I am an explorer and adventurer at heart.    Right now, right here, my adventure and connection is on the page.  I can’t wait to see where it leads.
